Is What You're Feeling Normal? Or Is It Time to See Someone?
Here’s the thing most people don’t say out loud: by the time someone searches for a psychiatrist or mental health provider in Las Vegas, they’ve already been struggling for a while. Maybe months. Maybe years.
You’ve probably told yourself some version of: “I’ll get through this on my own.” Or maybe someone close to you keeps saying they’re fine when you can clearly see they are not fine.
So when does it cross the line from a hard season into something that actually needs professional support? Here are some of the most common signs our patients and their families describe before they reach out to us.
You might need professional support if: you feel anxious or low more days than not, you’re snapping at people you love and can’t explain why, sleep feels impossible or you can’t drag yourself out of bed, concentration has tanked at work or school, you’ve started avoiding things you used to enjoy, or you just feel like something is deeply wrong even if you can’t name it.
None of those things are character flaws. They are symptoms. And symptoms respond to treatment.
What Conditions Does Janiece Treat at Serenity Nonprofit in Las Vegas?
Whether you are coming in for yourself or trying to get help for a teenager or family member, here is what Janiece addresses:
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, and chronic worry that won't let up.
Depression
Persistent sadness, low energy, emotional numbness, and difficulty finding meaning or motivation.
Trauma & PTSD
Flashbacks, hypervigilance, nightmares, emotional numbness after traumatic experiences.
ADHD
Inattention, impulsivity, disorganization, and focus issues in teens and adults.
Mood Disorders
Bipolar disorder, emotional dysregulation, and dramatic mood swings.
Sleep Issues
Insomnia, difficulty staying asleep, and sleep patterns that are wrecking your daily life.
If you are not sure whether what you or your loved one is experiencing fits into one of these categories — just call us. That is what we are here for. You do not need to have a perfect diagnosis before you pick up the phone.
What Does an Appointment with a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Actually Look Like?
If you’ve never seen a psychiatric provider before, you might not know what to expect. And that uncertainty alone can make people put it off longer than they should. So let us walk you through it.
The first visit
Your first appointment with Janiece is really a conversation. She will ask you about what you have been experiencing, how long it has been going on, your history, your lifestyle, what you have already tried, and what you are hoping for. It is not an interrogation. It is more like finally sitting down with someone who is fully focused on understanding what is happening with you.
The treatment plan
After that initial evaluation, Janiece works with you collaboratively , not just telling you what to do, but explaining your options, answering your questions, and building a plan that fits your real life. That might include medication, therapy tools, coping strategies, or some combination. Nothing gets prescribed without your understanding and consent.
Ongoing care
Mental health care is not a one-and-done situation. Janiece and the Serenity Nonprofit team provide ongoing medication management and supportive care so that your treatment can adjust as your life does.
What If I Can't Afford a Psychiatrist in Las Vegas?
This is the question that stops so many people from even trying. The assumption that mental health care is only for people with great insurance or plenty of money is one of the biggest barriers to people getting help — and it is one that Serenity Nonprofit exists specifically to break down.
Here is what we accept at Serenity Nonprofit:
Medicaid (FFS)
Medicare
Anthem
Silver Summit
Molina
HPN
Sliding Scale Available
Serenity Nonprofit is also a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center, which means we are held to standards of care that ensure services remain accessible to people regardless of their ability to pay. Nobody is turned away because of cost. That is not a marketing line — it is our actual policy
Do I Need a Referral to See Janiece at Serenity Nonprofit?
No referral is needed. You can contact Serenity Nonprofit directly to make an appointment. Janiece is currently accepting new patients, so if you are ready to get started or even just ready to have a conversation about whether this is right for you, you can call or visit the website today.
Telehealth is available. Janiece is licensed throughout Nevada, which means if you are anywhere in the state and getting to a physical office is a barrier, you can receive care virtually from your home. Same quality care, same provider, same compassion, without the commute.
My Loved One Is Struggling but Refuses Help. What Can I Do?
This is one of the most heartbreaking situations a family member can be in. You can see that someone you love is not okay. They either deny it, minimize it, or refuse to reach out. And you feel completely helpless.
Here is what you can do right now. First, you can call us on their behalf to ask questions, understand the process, and learn about what options exist. You do not need your loved one to be on board for you to gather information.
Second, sometimes people are more willing to start with telehealth because it feels less formal and intimidating than going to a clinic. The barrier is lower when care comes to them.
Third, if your loved one is in an acute crisis right now, if they are talking about hurting themselves, or you are genuinely scared for their safety, our 24/7 crisis hotline is available around the clock at 702-815-1550. You do not have to wait.

If this is an emergency situation, call us right now. Our trained team is available around the clock to provide immediate crisis support in Las Vegas and across Nevada.

Crisis line always open
Serenity Nonprofit is not a pop-up clinic or a telehealth startup that launched last year. This organization has 15 years of combined history serving Las Vegas and the surrounding Nevada communities through Serenity Mental Health and Serenity Health. That legacy matters because it means the people here know this community.
The care here is not one-size-fits-all. Serenity Nonprofit offers bilingual staff in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Vietnamese so that language is never a barrier to care. Services span mental health therapy, medication management, substance use counseling, crisis services, rehabilitation, case management, neurofeedback, telehealth, and more — all under one roof, with an integrated approach that treats you as a whole person.
And now, with Janiece Rivers joining the team as a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Las Vegas residents have direct access to expert psychiatric evaluation and medication management without the long waits and referral runaround that are all too common in this city.
How long does it take to get an appointment with a psychiatric provider in Las Vegas?
At Serenity Nonprofit, we do our best to offer prompt appointments, including same-day options when available. Because Janiece is now accepting new patients, wait times are much shorter than the national average for psychiatric care. Call 702-815-1550 or visit the website to get on the schedule.
Can I get ADHD medication as an adult in Las Vegas without a prior diagnosis?
Yes. Janiece conducts thorough evaluations and can diagnose ADHD in adults and teens who have not previously been diagnosed. Many adults discover their ADHD for the first time in their 30s, 40s, or beyond. An evaluation will help determine whether medication and other support strategies are appropriate for you.
Does Serenity Nonprofit take Nevada Medicaid for psychiatric services?
Yes. Serenity Nonprofit accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and several managed care plans including Anthem, Silver Summit, Molina, and HPN. A sliding scale fee is also available. No one is denied care based on inability to pay.
Can I see a psychiatric provider over telehealth if I live outside Las Vegas but still in Nevada?
Absolutely. Janiece is licensed throughout Nevada and provides telehealth services to patients across the state. Whether you are in Henderson, North Las Vegas, Reno, or anywhere in between, you can access psychiatric care virtually.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner?
Both can evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medications for mental health conditions. A psychiatric nurse practitioner, like Janiece, holds advanced nursing credentials with a specialty focus in psychiatric and mental health care. In Nevada, PMHNPs have full prescriptive authority and provide the same quality of medication management and supportive care as a psychiatrist, often with shorter wait times and a more relationship-centered approach.
You Are One Conversation Away from Feeling Better

You do not have to have all the answers before you call. You do not have to have the perfect words to describe what you are feeling. You just have to reach out.
